First Appointment

First Appointment

We need to know your situation better. At your first appointment, we’ll take a complete medical history for you and your partner, if you have one.  If you have done testing or treatment at another clinic, please bring these results with you. Your doctor may order more testing, if necessary. Often times, you may be able to begin treatment right away.

Counselling

(Strongly recommended)

Counselling

It is strongly recommended that you and your partner, if you have one, meet with a counsellor to discuss individual or relationship concerns and expectations about treatment among other topics to help support your emotional wellbeing during this time.

Cycle Monitoring with Timed Intercourse or IUI

Cycle Monitoring with Timed Intercourse or IUI

Cycle monitoring involves 5 to 10 days of blood tests and ultrasounds over a 2-week period. These visits are between 7AM and 9AM Monday to Sunday. Your doctor will decide when it’s appropriate for you to have timed intercourse or have your partner or donor’s sperm washed for insemination.

Pregnancy Test

Pregnancy Test

This is done 10 to 14 day following intercourse or insemination. Results are reviewed by your physician and next steps determined.

IVF Cycle

IVF Cycle

An IVF Cycle includes a pretreatment phase and then blood and ultrasound monitoring for approximately 12 days. You will be asked to come to the clinic for this 5-7 times between 7AM and 9AM Monday to Sunday. Your doctor will review your results after each visit and decide on the dosage for your daily injections. After approximately 10- 12 days of your daily injection, your doctor will decide when it’s time for your egg retrieval.

Egg Retrieval

Egg Retrieval

The process of retrieving your eggs takes about 15 minutes. You’ll be given a sedative and a local anesthetic. A TRIO doctor will use a needle to drain the fluid and eggs from the follicles.

Laboratory Phase

Laboratory Phase

Your eggs will be fertilized with your partner’s sperm or your selected donor sperm using a process called ICSI.

Embryo Transfer

Embryo Transfer

5 days after your egg retrieval, you will have an embryo transfer. All unused embryos will be frozen for future use.

Pregnancy Test

Pregnancy Test

This is done 10 to 12 days following your embryo transfer.

Physician Referral

For continuity of care, a referral from your doctor is strongly recommended. This ensures a smooth transition of your medical care.

Self Referral

If you do not have a Family Doctor, you can refer yourself to TRIO. Please download this referral form (PDF) to do so.

Holistic Therapies

Therapies such as yoga and acupuncture can help you manage stress, relax and contribute to your general health.

Emotional Counselling

Taking the time to meet with a counsellor, alone or with your partner, can help support your emotional wellbeing during this time.
