First Appointment

First Appointment

We need to know your situation better. At your first appointment, we’ll take a complete medical history for you and your partner, if you have one. This visit is covered by OHIP.

Testing Phase

Testing Phase

Your doctor will order blood tests for you and your partner (if you have one). Female patients will have an ultrasound and male patients will have sperm tests. This phase may also include monitoring your cycle to see what your body does naturally. Most tests are covered by OHIP.

Your doctor will review your tests and recommend a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. You will be asked to watch TRIO’s online education video prior to beginning treatment.

Counselling

(Strongly recommended)

Counselling

It is strongly recommended that you and your partner, if you have one, meet with a counsellor to discuss individual or relationship concerns and expectations about treatment among other topics to help support your emotional wellbeing during this time.

Cycle Monitoring with Timed Intercourse or IUI

Cycle Monitoring with Timed Intercourse or IUI

Cycle monitoring involves 5 to 10 days of blood tests and ultrasounds over a 2-week period. These visits are between 7AM and 9AM Monday to Sunday. Your doctor will decide when it’s appropriate for you to have timed intercourse or have your partner or donor’s sperm washed for insemination.

Pregnancy Test

Pregnancy Test

This is done 10 to 14 day following intercourse or insemination. Results are reviewed by your physician and next steps determined.

Physician Referral

For continuity of care, a referral from your doctor is strongly recommended. This ensures a smooth transition of your medical care.

Self Referral

If you do not have a Family Doctor, you can refer yourself to TRIO. Please download this referral form (PDF) to do so.

Holistic Therapies

Therapies such as yoga and acupuncture can help you manage stress, relax and contribute to your general health.

Emotional Counselling

Taking the time to meet with a counsellor, alone or with your partner, can help support your emotional wellbeing during this time.

Fees & OHIP Funding

Fees vary depending on your treatment path, with a limited number of annual cycles covered by OHIP for women under the age of 43.
