TRIO sign and clinic at North York

TRIO is very pleased to announce that we will be re-opening our Downtown, North York and Thornhill clinics on May 19th, and that all fertility treatments (fresh IVF, frozen embryo transfer, IUI, diagnostic or timed intercourse, and testing) will be offered. To accommodate all patients, treatment will be phased in. Please see below for details. After weeks of uncertainty, we are so pleased that you will finally be able to resume or start your treatment with us:

  • Patients who are doing fresh IVF cycles and frozen embryo transfers: emailing for Day 1’s will begin on May 11th. Monitoring and testing for these cycles will begin on May 19th
  • Patients who are doing IUI cycles and diagnostic/timed intercourse cycles: emailing for Day 1’s will begin on May 25th
  • Patients who require testing can email their nursing team anytime for instructions on how to get requisitions and how to book tests: testing for AMH, DNA, etc. will begin on May 19th
  • Patients will be getting a specific day and time to come to the clinic from their Day 1 team. Please see below for details

To ensure safety for our patients as well as our staff, and to respect the new rules of social distancing and government regulations, we have established a number of safety measures, including a strict new operational framework, for everyone visiting the clinic. This means each time you come to the clinic you will be required to observe the following rules:

Screening:

  •  Have prescreening completed over the phone the day before you arrive
  • Have additional screening completed when you check in for your appointment, including having your temperature taken when you arrive
  • Wear a TRIO wristband when you visit the clinic. You will be given a new wristband each time you visit. You will be asked to wear this wristband for your entire time at the clinic to indicate that you have been screened

Specific appointments will be given to all patients to ensure Social Distancing:

  • For your safety, we must limit the number of people in the clinic
  • For each visit, you will be given a specified, assigned time to come to the clinic. Please come only at that time. There are no more drop in’s for testing. You must come at your time, or you will not receive treatment that day
  • Please arrive alone, as only the person receiving treatment can come to the clinic. Partners and family members – including children – may not come with you.

Personal Protection:

  •  Wear a mask (PPE) provided by TRIO at all times while you are at the clinic. This mask will cover your nose and your mouth
  •  Use the hand sanitizer provided and sanitize your hands frequently during your visit
  • Medical appointments with your doctor will continue to be virtual
  • Nurses, doctors and lab technicians will be in full PPE during in-person patient interactions

New Consent Form and Fees:

  • There will be an additional consent form to sign acknowledging that you understand the potential risks of accessing a public space during the pandemic. Please note that every clinic in Canada will be asking patients to sign the exact same consent. You will not be able to begin fertility treatment until you have signed this form.
  • Due to the increased administrative and nursing support that is necessary to operate the clinic as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a one-time administration fee of $300 per patient.

Please be aware that based on any new recommendations from the province of Ontario, the CFAS, or Public Health, these rules may change.

Monitoring:

We understand this new normal will take time to get used to for our patients. We also have to get used to it, since it is in place to ensure that patients as well as staff stay safe and healthy. We want you to understand that many of these restrictions have been designed to limit the volume of people in the clinic at any given time. Blood draws, ultrasounds, DNA Fragmentation drop off and other monitoring activities will now be timed appointments, scheduled in 15-minute intervals. It is very important that you do not arrive early, or alternatively, are not late for your appointment. Please arrive on time.

In order to make sure that everyone gets treatment, we are extending our hours: Monitoring will start at 7:00am and will continue throughout the day, on both weekdays and weekends.

We hope there is a silver lining to this new approach, namely that you will be waiting less as you’ll be in and out of the clinic more quickly than before; and since, for the moment anyway, appointments with doctors are virtual, you will be spending less of your time at the clinic.

Treatment Cycles:

When you are ready to begin treatment please email us at day1@triofertility.com with your Day 1. Please be sure to include your name, your doctor’s name, the date of your Day 1 and the type of treatment you are doing. The Day 1 team will follow up with you and give you instructions on next steps. If you need to come into the clinic, the Day 1 team will give you a specific day and time to come in.

Modifications to the Clinic:

Over the next two weeks, we will be modifying our clinic space so that patients and staff will be safe as well as comfortable. Here are some of the modifications you can expect to see when you come in:

  • Fewer chairs in all waiting rooms. All of our chairs will be sanitized by our cleaning staff regularly throughout the day, every day
  • We have installed new Plexiglass barriers at screening stations and reception areas for added safety and protection for everyone
  • We will be sanitizing high touch areas in the clinic throughout the day and have extra cleaning measures in place
  • Nurses, doctors and lab technicians will be in full PPE during in-person patient interactions

The Medical Team:

For everyone’s safety, TRIO doctors will continue to conduct patient appointments virtually. You can continue to book your follow up appointments, protocol appointments and other types of appointments with your doctor from 9:00am – 3:00pm every weekday. Please call 416-506-0804 and follow the prompts to reach your doctor’s office, or email your doctor’s office to reach a medical secretary who will book an appointment for you. Doctors will be in the clinic in full PPE during medical procedures such as retrievals and transfers.

The Lab:

Our Lab Director, Dr. Jim Meriano, continues to be on site daily to ensure the health, safety and security of your frozen eggs, sperm and embryos. In addition, his team of embryologists will be working in the lab, with social distancing rules in place, to resume all lab activities.

The Pharmacy:

The Toronto Wellness Pharmacy will re-open onsite starting May 19th. You will be able to pick up your medication when you are at the clinic beginning on May 19th.
