Mental Health Support During your Fertility Journey

Talk to a Care Navigator

The fertility journey can be a rollercoaster of emotions. Research has shown that having a multidisciplinary care approach, including mental health support, can dramatically improve your experience. At TRIO, we have created a wide variety of resources to help provide our patients with the tools they need to support their mental and emotional well-being during their fertility treatment and care.

TRIO’s Support Groups

Fertility treatment can often feel overwhelming, isolating, and stressful. That’s why we offer a range of private Facebook Support groups to offer community and connection for TRIO patients. A TRIO Counsellor moderates each group and provides a space to ask questions, give and receive support, and share experiences with others.

In these groups, our counsellors facilitate discussion and provide strategies to help patients cope with the emotional challenges that are often part of a fertility journey. Topics raised may include:

  • Expectation for your treatment: Understanding what to expect can help reduce anxiety and uncertainty.
Communication with partners and loved ones: Learn how to communicate your needs and feelings to your partner and loved ones, ensuring mutual support and understanding.
  • Coping with difficult emotions: Techniques and strategies to manage feelings of sadness, frustration, and disappointment.
  • Managing stress: Practical tips for stress reduction and relaxation techniques tailored to your personal preferences.
Setting boundaries: Guidance on setting healthy boundaries to protect your emotional well-being.
  • Gaining a sense of empowerment, control, and hope: Tools and resources to help you feel more in control of your fertility journey and maintain hope.

Trauma Informed Care Co-ordination

Trauma is a term used to describe the challenging emotional consequences that living through a distressing event can have for an individual. Traumatic experiences often involve a loss of power, control, or trust. Providing Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) involves understanding, recognizing, and responding in a supportive manner to the effects of all types of trauma. TIC emphasizes physical, psychological and emotional safety for patients and providers, and helps build a sense of trust, control, and empowerment.

TRIO and its staff are committed to creating a safe space for all our patients during their fertility care. For some people, specific aspects of the fertility treatment process could be triggering. To ensure these important issues are addressed, our new Trauma

Informed Care Co-ordinator can meet one-on-one to understand your needs. They can provide advocacy, offer referrals and linkages to services, and strengthen your navigational skills as you embark on your fertility journey.
