Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need to come to a fertility clinic?
You don’t have to wait until you know something is wrong to speak with a fertility specialist. In general, it may be time to seek an assessment if you’re under 35 and have been trying to conceive for 12 months, or 35 or older and have been trying for 6 months.
You may want to come in sooner if you have irregular or absent periods, a known reproductive health condition, concerns about sperm health, a history of pregnancy loss, or have had treatments that could affect fertility.
A fertility clinic can also be helpful if you’re planning for the future, considering egg or sperm freezing, need donor eggs or sperm, or are exploring other paths to building your family. An assessment can help you better understand your reproductive health and the options available to you.
How do I get started?
As a resident of Ontario, talk to one of our nurse practitioners (link) to have your testing and specialist appointment covered by OHIP. Live outside of Ontario? You can self-refer by contacting care@triofertility.com
Do I need a referral?
To have your visit covered by OHIP, you need a referral from a doctor or nurse practitioner. You can send a referral to referrals@triofertility.com or book online with one of our nurse practitioners today.
What if I live outside of Toronto?

What happens at a fertility assessment?
A fertility assessment is an opportunity to learn more about your reproductive health and identify any factors that could affect your ability to conceive now or in the future. Depending on your circumstances, your assessment may include bloodwork to check hormone levels and ovarian reserve, an ultrasound to assess the ovaries and uterus, and semen testing when applicable.
Once your testing is complete, you'll meet with a fertility specialist to review your results, discuss your medical and reproductive history, and talk about your family-building goals. Your doctor can explain what the results mean for you and whether any additional testing, treatment or simply trying on your own may be appropriate.
A fertility assessment doesn't mean you're committing to treatment, it's about giving you more information so you can better understand your fertility and your options.
