Fertilizing eggs with ICSI
In a typical in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure, the eggs and sperm are placed in a dish together and the sperm are allowed to fertilize the eggs. Sometimes, however, they need a little help.
If there is a low number of normal sperm or if they’re not robust swimmers, your doctor may decide to help them out with a procedure called intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). This decision would be made before your cycle starts.
