Livia Deda, CCPA MSc. (She/Her)
Certified Physician Assistant
Livia Deda works on TRIO’s medical team as a Canadian Certified Physician Assistant. While Physician Assistants are common in healthcare settings in the United States, they are relatively new here in Canada. In addition to your REI, nursing team, and Patient Care Coordinator, the Physician Assistant is an integral member of your care team, working under the supervision of your physician to help with your care.
Having a PA on your TRIO medical team provides many benefits: in addition to conducting initial patient consults, result reviews and physical exams, Livia will perform IUIs and endometrial biopsies and review pregnancy ultrasounds. She will also provide increased access to your REI: Livia is in direct contact with your TRIO physician throughout the day, and will be able to email or call you with answers to your medical questions as well as provide additional medical follow up as needed.
As a Physician Assistant, Livia is a highly trained health care professional. She received this specialized degree in 2016 from The Department of Family and Community Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Prior to her PA degree, Livia obtained her MSc. in the Department of Physiology — with a focus on Reproductive Sciences; and her Hon. BSc. in the Health and Disease Specialist Program at The University of Toronto.
Before joining TRIO, Livia was a Physician Assistant at LMC Diabetes and Endocrinology, where she worked with patients with various endocrine disorders including diabetes type 1 & type 2, hypo/hyperthyroidism, hyperprolactinemia etc. She also worked as a Clinical Research Coordinator, Canadian Clinical Trials Network, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, where she initiated, planned and executed multicenter clinical trials at the Hospital for Sick Children and affiliated GTA sites (Markham Stouffville Hospital and Credit Valley Hospital).
Throughout her education, Livia obtained numerous awards and scholarships in a range of medical disciplines, including the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Livia has also contributed to numerous peer-reviewed articles and manuscripts.
What I Love About My Work as a Physician Assistant
“The best part of working at TRIO is going through the fertility journeys with patients and helping them navigate what can be a very stressful time,” says Livia. Patients she has worked with say they not only value Livia’s medical skills, but from a human interaction perspective, they appreciate her empathy, her kindness, and her optimism!
