Certified Physician Assistant

Navin Tejani works on TRIO’s medical team as a Canadian Certified Physician Assistant. While Physician Assistants are common in healthcare settings in the United States, they are relatively new here in Canada. In addition to your REI, nursing team, and Patient Care Coordinator, the Physician Assistant is an integral member of your care team, working under the supervision of your physician.

Having a PA on your TRIO medical team provides many benefits: In addition to conducting initial patient consults and physical exams, Navin will perform IUIs and biopsies and review pregnancy ultrasounds. She will also provide increased access to your REI: Navin is in direct contact with your TRIO physician throughout the day and will be able to email or call you with answers to your medical questions as well as provide additional medical follow up as needed.

Navin is a highly trained health care professional, earning her Physician Assistant degree in 2016 from The Department of Family and Community Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. While earning her BScPA certification, Navin completed numerous clinical rotations in an impressive variety of medical disciplines including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Ob/Gyn, General Surgery, Mental Health, Endocrinology, Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics. During these rotations, she performed physical examinations — including taking paps; assisted doctors with deliveries; provided counselling to patients; participated in ward rounds and ER consults; and collaborated with other health care professionals in the area of treatment planning. In addition to being a Physician Assistant, Navin has a Doctor of Chiropractic degree (DC) from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, as well as a Bachelor of Science (Hons), with a double major in Neuroscience & Psychology from the University of Toronto.

Prior to joining TRIO, Navin performed over 150 comprehensive geriatric assessments with a supervising physician and care teams at various clinical settings in the GTA when she worked for Geriatric Outreach Services of Ontario; she was responsible for providing comprehensive health assessments and counselling for more than 100 patients while working with a supervising physician and multi-disciplinary health care team at The Toronto Clinic; she provided medical advisory services for the Aga Khan Health board, where she helped to triage calls related to health and social welfare matters for the Ismaili community in Ontario; and she was a chiropractic doctor at Better Body Fitness, Rehab & Wellness, where she provided chiropractic care, ancillary therapy and acupuncture.

“Being a PA at TRIO allows me to build relationships with patients, as I am often their first point of contact when it comes to clinical matters. This allows me to support them through difficult times and cheer for them through all the successes,” says Navin.

Navin is an active member of the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants and is certified in First Aid and CPR. She is fluent in Hindi and Urdu.

Why I Chose Fertility Medicine

“I have undergone this journey myself and was blessed with my son through IVF. Having dealt with similar challenges, I have a deep understanding of what our patients are going through and feel I can empathize and support them through this long and sometimes arduous journey.”
